It's Burnley, Not Barcelona

When we received an email from a Burnley fan Dave Thomas early last season requesting permission to use editorial from the site for a new book we gave the permission but didn’t hold our breath expecting to see extracts from the site in print.

Many people set off with good intentions and fall at the first hurdle but Dave to his credit got over that first hurdle, in fact cleared them all and got to the finishing line, culminating in the book, entitled, "It’s Burnley, Not Barcelona" being published this week.

The book is a diary of the events of last season through the eyes of Dave and other supporters as we started badly, picked up, had cup runs and threw a few in before finishing the season with a disaster. It’s all looked at though with a sense of humour that you surely needed to have during probably the strangest season for twenty years.

Dave, who describes the book as gently humorous, said at the launch that it was finally a relief to get it done and admitted that it was one of the most bizarre seasons he could recall.

He thanked his wife Harriet (Mrs T) for her help, particularly with the computer skills, of which former headmaster Dave is limited.

It was good to see so many at the launch including ex-Clarets from three different eras and a well known former physio. That physio was of course Jimmy Holland and he was joined by Joe Brown, Jimmy Robson and Steve Kindon.

And what of the book. You could buy it to keep up your collection of Burnley book, I think a better reason for buying it is that it is a damn good read (and not necessarily the Clarets Mad bits).

Well done Dave, I didn’t really think you were serious when we first discussed it. You can be rightfully proud of yourself for – IT’S BURNLEY, NOT BARCELONA

We have pictures from the launch and you can see them by visiting our Clarets Gallery – they are pictures 61 to 66.
