It's been all about managers in the Championship

Last updated : 25 October 2012 By Tony Scholes

I don't think anyone could be surprised that Paul Jewell has gone from Ipswich. Three points out of thirty is hardly a testimonial when you are already thought to be hanging on to your job.

After defeat last Saturday at Hull he decided he was going to carry on. After defeat on Tuesday at home to Derby the club decided he wasn't.

It's not that long ago some were suggesting that Peterborough would remain bottom all season but their shock win at home to Huddersfield has seen Ipswich take their place. They acted swiftly as soon as that happened and are now looking to replace Jewell who arrived in January 2011.

That's when Dougie Freedman took the Palace job. Now here's a move I've not quite got my head round. Palace are in a hell of a good run right now but his move to Bolton looks to be a right 'flavour of the month' affair.

Maybe it's Alan Nixon attaching himself to the Palace legend (and he scored more than 12 goals for Palace), but Freedman told his adoring Palace public only last Friday: "The simple facts are that I'm in the middle of building Crystal Palace Football, and when I picked the club up, we were in a dark place.

"I think I'm half way there in getting the club the way I want it to be, and I'm the sort of guy to leave jobs half done. It's clear to say I'm half way building something that I'd like to finish."

Four days later he'd left Selhurst Park to replace another refreshingly honest manager at Bolton who has left the newly relegated club in a terrific state, and with all the dirty work done. Why would they want Freedman when they already had the best manager he's ever been?

That leaves four of us on the search for a new boss. Palace apparently want Steve Coppell back. I reckon it will be around his 43rd spell there as manager if he takes it, and over in Ipswich, former boss George Burley wants the job back.

Meanwhile, Chorley's much sought after boss Gary Flitcroft could be the man for shabby Shebby at Blackburn and right now the key names for our job are Sean Dyche and Steven Pressley. Dyche is working with the England under 21 team having been kicked out by the Udinese Franchise; Pressley is currently manager at Falkirk.

It could be either; it might be neither, but we are now ready to head off to Cardiff with Terry Pashley in charge again. Cardiff have won all six home games so it will be difficult but anything can happen in this division.

Well done to Peterborough on beating Huddersfield. That was the best result of the midweek. There was one big comeback too. Millwall went 3-0 up at home against Birmingham after only 18 minutes with two of the goals scored by former Birmingham loanee Chris Wood. They still couldn't win with Marlon King hitting a hat trick. Still, a better result for Millwall than the same game last season. Birmingham then went to the Den and won 6-0 with King getting two.

As Blackburn, Burnley, Crystal Palace and Ipswich look for new managers, you can see the midweek results and stats, the leading goalscorers, each club's red and yellow card count, the highest and lowest attendances and the next fixtures below.
