It is not good news – Miller is in charge

Last updated : 12 August 2005 By Tony Scholes

When Burnley went down 3-0 at QPR last season, the only time we conceded three goals in a league game, the game was over in the first fifteen minutes. A bizarre series of decisions from the stressed Miller made things even more difficult as cast iron penalties were refused at one end and soft decisions given at the other.

Steve Cotterill was clearly fuming about him at the end of the game, but wouldn’t comment saying, “I’ve already got a hearing coming up soon so I don’t want to say anything about the referee.”

Amazingly an honest QPR boss Ian Holloway added, “If I was Steve Cotterill I would feel a bit aggrieved about this referee,” not something you often here from the opposition manager.

Maybe it is just us, maybe he referees well elsewhere but this will be his fourth Burnley game and we are still waiting to see anything like an acceptable performance.

Tomorrow will see him in the middle for the third game in a week, he’s already taken charge of two games in the two lower divisions. One the opening day of the season he yellow carded three players in the Nottingham Forest v Huddersfield game and on Tuesday he added five more yellow cards and one red card in the League Two game between Carlisle and Peterborough.

Former Watford and Wigan player Peter Kennedy was the player to receive a red card, a decision that Peterborough have immediately appealed against.

Still, we were probably certain to get Miller at least once this season so at least we can get it all over and done with and maybe he might just have a good game this time.

The assistant referees are Mick McDonough (Tyne and Wear) and Michael Short (Yorkshire). Gary Hilton from Lancashire will act as the fourth official.
