It is a six week contract

The latest departure from the Crisp Bowl has to be the best of the lot. On the day he was installed as the new manager Gary Megson joked when asked how long his deal was. "It is a long term contract, six weeks I think," to which his new boss Milan Mandaric added that it would become seven if he won his first game.

That was six weeks ago today, yesterday Megson had had enough and departed after he made it clear he wanted to go and talk to Bolton Wanderers about the vacancy in Horwich. I don't think he left with Mandaric's blessing.

The Leicester owner said: "Despite my best efforts to retain his services and turning down two formal approaches from Bolton, Gary left me with no choice last night when he informed me he wanted to leave Leicester and talk to the Premiership club. It was evident to me that following a meeting requested by Gary that his loyalties and heart lay elsewhere.

"In point of fact it was abundantly clear to me that if I stood in Gary's way it would have a detrimental effect on the club and I was not prepared to allow that to happen and the search for a new manager begins in earnest."

Mandaric has placed Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart, both brought in by Megson, in temporary charge until such time as a new manager, a fifth since he took control of Leicester in February of this year, is in place.

He doesn't like the idea that Megson has decided to leave so soon, I bet there's a wry smile on the faces of Rob Kelly, Nigel Worthington and Martin Allen today.
