It could be Sunny in Burnley

By Tony Scholes
Tuesday, 7th July 2009
Burnley are set to fly in Valencia's Nigerian midfielder Stephen Sunday with a view to signing him on a season long loan.
Owen Coyle - keen to sign Stephen Sunday
The 20-year-old Lagos born defensive midfielder is also wanted by Real Betis but the Clarets are hoping to seal a deal that will see him play for Burnley in the Premier League over the coming season.

He started his career with FC Ebedei in Nigeria and then moved to Jegedi Babes. When playing in youth tournaments he impressed enough to persuade Spanish club Polideportivo Ejido to sign him.

Two years ago his form there led to a move to Valencia and the youngster has also spent time out on loan with Osasuna and Real Betis. A season long loan to Betis looked likely but Burnley are now hoping to bring him to Turf Moor.

Sunday, nicknamed Sunny, has dual nationality and has already represented Spain at Under-20 level. He was close to a move to England in January of this year, but a deal to Portsmouth fell through on financial grounds.
