Is Robbie heading back to Burnley?

It was January 2005 when Robbie said his farewells to Burnley, a couple of weeks after his last game for us at Sunderland which had followed his final home performance and that memorable free kick goal, one of two he scored in the win against Preston.

The whole saga had left a sour taste. Initially it looked as though he was on his way to Wigan but in the end it was Birmingham where he stayed until the end of the season before joining Leeds. He's had an interesting two years there, firstly a play off run followed by relegation and the biggest, and most laughable, current soap opera story in English football.

He's still there, and still playing for them, as they fight off the possibility of liquidation, but according to media sources this morning there might just be an escape route for him, and a familiar one at that.

We all know how highly Steve Cotterill rates him. He once described him as the best player he'd ever worked with, and he did give him the captaincy when he first became manager at Burnley. The suggestion is that he could be coming back for a knock down fee of £250,000.

I'm sure any such move, or potential move, would attract a mixed reaction from Burnley fans. Some wouldn't want to see him back under any circumstances, others would welcome him. Me - if we had a chance of getting him for that sort of fee then I'd be rolling out the red carpet.

To include Robbie in a strike force alongside the different talents and strengths of Ade Akinbiyi, Andy Gray and Kyle Lafferty sounds just about right to me. Get that carpet out.
