Irish Clarets have a 'Wonderful' night

Michael Duff - in form as Northern Ireland draw in Denmark
No doubt Duff was the Burnley star, in an Irish back four that allowed the Danes very little opportunity. He was singled out for praise by both the English and Irish commentary teams, the latter including former Claret Billy Hamilton.

Duff, playing on the right hand side of the defence, was in the same sort of form he'd shown at Carrow Road last Sunday and must have been close to being named man of the match, the only blot on his copy book being the yellow card. It was his second in the competition and that means he is ruled out of the Windsor Park clash against Latvia this coming Wednesday.

Northern Ireland weren't expected to get anything from this game, despite their brilliant performance last time out when they beat Spain, and it was always going to be a game where they were on the back foot. That meant it was that bit more difficult for their forward players to shine.

Despite that there were good performances from our other two players Lafferty and Jones. Kyle started alongside David Healy up front and worked tirelessly. He got their first shot on target from about twenty-five yards out which was saved by Aston Villa keeper Thomas Sorensen down to his left.

Kyle's willingness to work hard and chase led Hamilton to suggest: β€œHe'll chase paper on a windy night,” as he played the first 63 minutes before being replaced by his Burnley team mate Steve Jones who did his bit too as they held off the Danes.

It wasn't a bad night for Burnley, we were constantly mentioned during commentary with Jonathan Pearce, unaware there were no Championship games this weekend, pointing out that we'd had such a good start to the season and were third before this weekend's games.

Well done again to our three internationals.
