Ipswich might not win another game

Last updated : 29 October 2012 By Tony Scholes
Cardiff, where we took a hammering on Saturday

I don't think he'll be there much longer when his temporary team mates see what he's had to say about them. "A new manager needs to come in and put a rocket under their backsides because there are not enough people who show they care about losing a game of football or even their own careers," blasted Wellens.

He added: "One of the coaches said that the old manager (Paul Jewell) got stick for bringing in loan players, but it is the loan players who are showing they care and that is a sad indication of what is wrong."

Ipswich lost, crucially, at home against Sheffield Wednesday and with Peterborough winning too it has left them five points behind both of them. Peterborough looked to be booking one of the relegation places but a good run has now seen them climb out of the bottom three on goal difference.

Bristol City are in there now and no surprise after seeing their performance against us on Tuesday.

It's early days and Ipswich need to make a good appointment. The departing Jewell has called for his mate Chris Hutchings to get the job. History says that every club that have promoted him following Jewell's departure have paid dearly for it.

At the other end of the table, as we know to our cost, Cardiff have gone back to the top. They've gone three points ahead of Leicester and Middlesbrough, with fourth place Crystal Palace continuing their good form with a win at Leicester.

We've played all of the top four now away from home now. It's difficult to judge on one game, particularly given how poor we were in two of them, but I'd say Cardiff are the ones who have impressed me the most and Middlesbrough the least.

Palace, of course, have joined Ipswich and Blackburn and ourselves in a search for a new manager. Our search looks to be coming to a conclusion and expect Blackburn to make their move for Blackpool boss Ian Holloway imminently.
