Ipswich keen on Mahon

Alan Mahon
Mahon has struggled to make an impact at Burnley again this season. He's been on the bench several times but has only been called upon in two league games and has played just seventeen minutes of league football this season, coming on in the home defeat to Ipswich and the draw at Swansea.

He was on loan at Portman Road in the 2003/04 season and played twelve games for the Tractor Boys. One of those games was our 6-1 defeat there in October 2003 when he played alongside the current Ipswich manager.

Now reports suggest he is ready to take Mahon back to Ipswich. He's prepared to offer a player as a swap although it is more likely that a straight cash deal could be agreed ahead of the January transfer window for a player who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Mahon joined the Clarets in March 2006, initially on loan, but injuries in particular have hampered his Burnley career. To date he's made just 61 league appearances and 31 of those have been as a substitute.

He's scored three goals in those games, all of them away from home. He netted in the away games against Crystal Palace and Norwich in the 2006/07 season and last season scored the first goal in the 3-2 win at Colchester.
