International brace for Lafferty

Kyle Lafferty
Kyle was a doubt before the game because of the injury he picked up in our defeat at Preston, and was only able to play the first half before limping off, but he made an impact during that period with two goals either side of one from David Healy to give the Irish a 3-0 half time lead.

His first came when he slotted the ball home following a pass from Steven Davis and his second came from a header nine minutes before the break. In doing so he's become the first Claret to score two goals in a full international since Billy Hamilton had us all on our feet during the 1982 World Cup when he scored both goals in a 2-2 draw against Austria in Madrid.

It has taken Kyle's goal count in international football to five in sixteen games since he made his debut in the summer of 2006 in a friendly against Uruguay played in New Jersey. His other goals have come against Finland in a friendly and against Liechtenstein and Sweden in European Qualifiers.

Graham Alexander was also on international duty tonight and won his 33rd Scottish cap after coming on as a late substitute in their 1-1 draw against Croatia at Hampden Park.
