Injury blow for Kevin Long

Last updated : 05 January 2015 By Tony Scholes

It looked inoccuous from up in the gods but when I saw it again on television it looked as though it could be a serious one.

And so it has proved with manager Sean Dyche confirming tonight that he has suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury.

Dyche confirmed after the Spurs game: "It is bad news for Kevin. We thought it wasn't a great situation when we first saw it live.

"Unfortunately he has done his cruciate and is going to be out for a number of months, as we know through Sam Vokes' recent injury.

"He knows he will get taken care of though here and he knows the journey he will be on, so we wish him well on his recovery and we will make sure he is supported throughout."

The game was his Premier League debut for the Clarets and his first appearance in the first team since the Capital One Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season.

The 25-year old made seven league appearances last season as Burnley won promotion to the Premier League, five of them starts when he stood in for Michael Duff.

He'll be out for some time now and will be looking to a return to action hopefully close to or just after the start of next season.

It's a horrible injury, and confirmed on the day when Sam Vokes scored his first goal on his return to action, but Long will be able to take some positives from how Sam has come back.

We wish him well and look forward to seeing him back in action in 2015/16.
