In the Championship – All gone quiet over here

Claude Davis - in demand and looking for a move
We'll start at Derby where the little man is settling in and not wasting any opportunity to have the odd dig at his former employer. So he's happy where he is, he wanted a move. It's happened Billy, you got your own way, it is getting somewhat tedious now.

He's now said he would like to sign three of his Preston players but admitted he can't afford them – but he sees no harm in unsettling Claude Davis, former Derby player Youl Mawene and Dave Nugent.

Davis is confirmed as the latest to be less than happy at Deepdale, chairman Derek Shaw has revealed that he's turned two offers down for the Jamaican central defender who in turn has told Shaw to keep him informed as he would like a move.

Meanwhile the urgent search for a manager goes on with Danny Wilson the latest name in the frame. It was Wilson who did football a massive service this season and inspired Franchise to their latest relegation, he deserves another job just for that.

There will definitely be some managerial appointments in the coming week. Crystal Palace have announced a press conference for this afternoon and it is believed Legend Peter Taylor is favourite for that although Palace are saying it is between two, with Mike Newell considered to be the second candidate.

Neither Hull nor Luton have said anything so it is a matter of waiting until this afternoon when Simon Jordan gets his fake tan and streaks done ready for the cameras as he appoints yet another Crystal Palace manager.

It will certainly leave one more Championship club without a manager and the same could befall Plymouth who have now reluctantly given Stoke permission to speak to Tony Pulis. Imposter Tony Scholes kept asking for that permission and when Pulis himself did it became clear there was no longer any point in refusing.

Just like Davies, Pulis has stamped his feet and got his own way and it looks a virtual certainty that he will return to the club that sacked him last summer. The fans in the Potteries don't seem too happy with the news where John Rudge is expected to return as Director of Football after being on gardening leave since March.

Ian Holloway - could be on his way to Plymouth if Pulis leaves
Ian Holloway is on the short list for Plymouth, as is former manager and now Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock, as the merry-go-round continues. If Holloway was to get the job it would bring all the mess at QPR to an end. He's still their manager but has been on gardening leave longer than Rudge has at Stoke, since the beginning of the year. Should he take another job it will allow Gianni Paladini to formally appoint Gary Waddock.

It's been quiet as far as transfers are concerned where Coventry and Burnley were the only two clubs to add to the staff. In Burnley's case it was completing the Alan Mahon signing and at the Ricoh yesterday Micky Adams completed the signing of Danish defender Mikkel Bischoff who has been released by Manchester City.

The 24 year old Bischoff joined KKMC four years ago but made just one league appearance for them, in September 2002 against Blackburn, when he played the first hour. He spent a loan spell at Wolves in the 2004/05 season and last season was at Sheffield Wednesday where he played his last game in the 0-0 draw against us at Hillsborough.

There's plenty of speculation and we can start at Leeds and two former Burnley players. It looks as though Kevin Blackwell is ready to unload his fifteen goals a season Ian Moore before he's even got his first goal for them. There have been suggestions that he could be on his way to Sheffield Wednesday for the same £50,000 Blackwell paid the Clarets for him.

Leeds though are keen to sign Glen Little and the suggestions are that Steve Coppell looks to have given them some encouragement. They came close to getting him on loan last March and could now make a move. Derby are also interested and could well make a bid for Glen who has one year left on his contract at the Madejski.

Spurs defender Stephen Kelly will sign for Birmingham this week whilst Joleon Lescott is expected to finally leave the Championship and move to Everton. Cardiff though are still waiting to see whether they will get Jason Koumas on a permanent basis after spending a year on loan at Ninian Park. The latest obstacle is interest from Sheffield United which could give the Irish midfielder another opportunity to play in the Premiership.

Adam Boyd - in demand but not heading for Barnsley
Will either Michael Chopra or Adam Boyd be playing in the Championship next season? There's been interest in both with Birmingham now apparently joining Cardiff and Barnsley in the chase for Newcastle striker Chopra. Cardiff remain favourites having made an offer although Glenn Roeder is keen for him to stay at Newcastle and go out on loan.

Barnsley have rubbished links with Hartlepool's Adam Boyd, but Cardiff and Norwich haven't. Interest is high and if he decided to move on from Victoria Park, as expected, he's going to have something of a choice.

Well done to Ipswich this week who called off their friendly against Franchise after receiving some complaints – but a black mark to Colchester who have jumped in to play them. Ipswich meanwhile have arranged a friendly against Lazio at Portman Road whilst over at Coventry they will be hosting Portuguese club Boavista.

When I see Boavista it takes me back a decade to the summer of 1996 when then manager Adrian Heath told us he was making a signing who would lift the whole place. It turned out to be Bambo from Boavista and a player who might just have got himself a game on Towneley in the local amateur league.
Finally – here's how to launch new kit. Sunderland, who keep their kits for two years, launched their new away kit last week. The date was announced, the time was announced for 6:00 p.m. and as the club shop prepared to open there were massive queues outside the Stadium of Light.

The players were there to officially launch the kit, there was entertainment outside the stadium. The crowds weren't quite as big as in previous years, after finishing seventh in the Premiership a few years ago they launched a new home kit at midnight and the queues wrapped the stadium.

We'll be watching the World Cup again this week, but keeping an eye on the Championship, starting this afternoon at Crystal Palace where we hear Simon's hairdresser has just arrived.
