I'm at Ipswich because of Kilby

Diallo, who joined Burnley from KV Mechelen in January, made his Clarets’ debut against the Tractor Boys and soon became an instant hit at the Turf. He was one of only two of the out of contract players, along with current club captain Graham Branch, to be offered a new deal.

He said he wanted to sign but then, and within hours of their transfer embargo being lifted, he signed on the dotted line for Ipswich.

But Diallo has now put the blame for his departure squarely at Barry Kilby’s door claiming that the Burnley Chairman didn’t act quickly enough and this was the reason for us losing the services of the Guinea international.

"At the end of the season Stan Ternent was desperate to sign me and wanted to offer me a new contract and I was happy to stay but we were waiting for the chairman," said Diallo.

"But nothing happened and then my agent called Burnley to tell them another club was interested in me and they should hurry up to offer me a contract, but again we did not hear anything from the chairman and I could not afford to wait any more.

"It was the chairman's fault. I know Stan was angry at first because he wanted to sign me but he knows it was not my fault. It was down to the chairman being too slow."

There was no reaction from Burnley to Diallo’s claims and when asked if he was looking forward to meeting up with Diallo again Stan Ternent’s curt answer was, "He is not playing."

Diallo though says his plans are to get to Portman Road early tonight to seek out Ternent, and his best friend Mo Camara - if he has recovered from a flu bug - to shake hands.
