Ilderton in charge of Roses clash

Last updated : 29 November 2013 By Tony Scholes

That Hull game was the third Burnley game he refereed last season. He was also at Turf Moor for the home game against Brighton in August and refereed our 2-2 draw at Birmingham on the Saturday before Christmas.

It was probably no surprise to get Ilderton three times. He's been a regular since his first Burnley game which was a 1-0 win against Millwall back in the 2004/05 season, a regular to the extent that tomorrow will see him referee Burnley for the 16th time.

He's generally been ok, the two away games at Coventry apart, but he did feel the need to apologise to Burnley boss Sean Dyche almost a year ago when he disallowed a Charlie Austin goal at Birmingham to award us a free kick for a foul on Kieran Trippier. Had he played on for two seconds before blowing the goal would have been given.

He used to be our penalty referee too. He gave us six penalties in his first eight Burnley games. We scored all six too, one each from Robbie Blake, Garreth O'Connor, Jon Harley, Andy Gray, Chris Eagles and Graham Alexander.

Ilderton is not a referee who is too busy when it comes to handing out cards. This season he's refereed 13 games during which he's yellow carded 25 players with two red cards, both of those coming in League Two.

Of those yellow cards, 14 have gone to home team players and 11 to away team players. Three of them came in his last game when Chris McCready, Jack Sampson and Joe Mwasilie (all Morecambe) were carded in their 2-1 home defeat against Rochdale two weeks ago.

Eddie Ilderton is currently 16th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 71.18 out of 100.

The assistant referees tomorrow are Geoff Liddle (County Durham) and Edward Smart (West Midlands). The fourth official is Football League referee Mark Heywood (Cheshire) who was the referee for our game at Nottingham Forest in December last year.
