Icelandic club goes Dutch

Johan who? You might well ask but they wanted a manager who was able to exploit the foreign market and so they’ve brought in the new man from mainland Europe so I think we know not to expect too many English signings down at the Windy City.

At this point I usually delve into my memory bank to give details of the manager’s previous clubs but I’m afraid Boskamp’s does escape me even though I must have seen him play, he was in the Dutch side that lost to Scotland in Argentina in 1978 – the game of the Archie Gemmill goal.

It appears that the 56 year-old Boskamp’s coaching and managerial career started in Belgium with Lierse before he moved on the Racing Genk and Anderlecht. He had most success with Anderlecht.

From Belgium it was off to Georgia and Dinamo Tbilisi followed by the Georgian national side. Since then he’s been with Al Wasl in United Arab Emirates and Al Ahli in Dubai.

Now it is off to Iceland in the Potteries for the Dutchman as he sets out to exploit the foreign markets, which apparently is so important to Stoke City.
