Ian Wright's number will not be used

These were numbers 25 and 33. There seemed no real explanation for this but apparently Stan thought that 25 was unlucky having already allocated it twice and never seen it on the field in a league game.

When squad numbers were introduced it was initially given to Rune Vindheim but before the season got underway the Norwegian left the Turf. It was then passed to Stephen Grant but after one sub appearance in a Worthington Cup tie he decided to turn his back on the game.

So 25 is now out of bounds but what about 33? It was believed that Stan was saving it for a possible return for Ian Wright that sadly never materialised but it is believed that it might remain as Ian Wright's number.

This seems to have been confirmed with this week's signings. We have assumed, although there has been no confirmation, that David Johnson has been allocated the number 32 and it was assumed, wrongly, that Gazza would get 33. Gazza has in fact been given the squad number 34 that was previously in the safe hands of Nik Michopoulos and so it looks as though the number 33 shirt will remain, for the time being, Ian Wright's.
