I saw the good, bad and indifferent

Bury manager Graham Barrow was more than pleased with the performance from his side but was disappointed that they went out after twice taking the lead during the first half when they made it very difficult for the Clarets.

“It’s a tough one to take, especially after we have played as well as we did tonight,” said the Bury manager. “I’ve already told the players that they were the better team on the night, we played the better football, but man to man, and they made better decisions on the ball at certain stages of the game.

“I have to say that, but it is down to the inexperience of the team and just as long as they learn from it.

“I could never see Robbie Blake trying to volley the ball from shoulder height to put somebody through, when we tried that in the second half, they went down and scored their third goal. We have got to take a bit more responsibility and learn quickly.

“We couldn’t have had a better chance of taking a scalp, we have played a team that has got an excellent defensive record in the Championship and we have given them a torrid time.”

And finally, and amazingly Barrow speaking about our second goal added, “At first thought the penalty decision was harsh, I haven’t seen it again yet, but I thought it was harsh on us.”

Steve Cotterill was clear that we got just what we were looking for, “We’re through and that’s what it is all about really,” he said after the game.

“I saw the good, bad and indifferent come out in us tonight though and all credit to Bury, I thought they were tremendous in their effort and application. But we’re pleased to be through. We knew they’d be up for it tonight and that’s how it proved.

“I don’t think we stood up to it enough in the first half and against a team from the lower leagues you’ve got to make sure you compete for everything.

“We didn’t compete as well as we can or could have done in the first half but we were much better in the second half and we are delighted to be though.”

And on the winning goal he added, “It was a terrific finish from a terrific player. I thought he was great again tonight as was Mo Camara who has been in terrific form.”
