Huddersfield trial for former Claret

Central defender Liam Eves was one of two players released after three years as a scholar at Turf Moor. He and goalkeeper James Salisbury failed to win deals and were suddenly on the look out for new clubs.

Blackpool based Liam had been at Burnley as a scholar since the summer of 2000 and had gone on to captain the youth team as well as making a considerable number of reserve team appearances.

The writing must have been on the ball for him though when some of his fellow 3rd year scholars such as Matt O’Neill and Joel Pilkington found themselves involved with the first team squad and just before the season ended he was told that he would not be kept on.

This week though he has been offered a trial by new Huddersfield boss Peter Jackson and reported on Monday at their Storthes Hall training ground along with two other defensive trialists in Martyn Booty from Chesterfield and Blackpool’s Ian Hughes.

Hopefully Liam, who was always a reliable and committed player and captain with our youth team, will have a successful trial and will be offered a contract with the cash strapped West Yorkshire club.
