Hooper to referee Burnley at the second attempt

Last updated : 14 March 2014 By Tony Scholes

Back in October he was scheduled to referee our home game against QPR but an injury put paid to that and he was replaced at late notice by Andy Haines.

It will be his first Turf Moor game but will be the third time he's refereed us and the previous two both ended in 1-0 wins. The first of them as at Millwall two seasons ago when Jay Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game and just over a year ago he was in charge at Charlton when Charlie Austin scored a brilliant winner for us.

He had a decent enough game at Millwall but it was anything but the case last season at Charlton when he had a really poor game as home misdemeanour went totally unpunished whilst waving yellow cards around like confetti for our players.

On the subject of yellow cards he's already reached three figures this season with 103 in 27 games with four red cards to add to that, including that of Derby's Richard Keogh in a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest in September. Of the yellow cards, 51 have gone to home team players and 50 to away team players.

He received a rating in RATE THE REF of 75 for his performance at Millwall but from two games his rating is  now 58.42 out of 100 which sees him in 43rd place.

The assistant referees are Bob Roberts (Lancashire) and Nigel Smith (Derbyshire). The fourth official is Football League referee Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire) who is still to referee a Burnley game.
