It's a home start against Nottingham Forest who finished last season in third place before losing in the play off semi-finals against Blackpool. They are expected to be one of the favourites again this year.
Ipswich had a difficult start last season but recovered and are thought to be another club who could mount a promotion bid. They provide us with our first away game of the season before a home game against Leicester and a trip to Swansea complete the first month.
There is a familiarity about Boxing Day. For the fourth time this Millennium we will play Barnsley, and this will be our third Boxing Day trip to Oakwell. In 2000 and 2006 we were beaten 1-0 at a ground where we haven't won since the 1930s. Maybe this season is the time and if so we could record our first away Boxing Day win since 1972.
Scunthorpe, Sheffield United and Reading complete the Christmas/New Year programme this year with the home game against the Blades on New Year's Day.
For those fans who travel to away games the midweek trips this coming season are not too bad. Middlesbrough, Doncaster, Hull and Nottingham Forest provide the opposition for the Tuesday night games.
And the league season ends, for the third successive year, with a home game against Cardiff City.
Other key dates see us host Preston on 11th September whilst we travel to Deepdale on 26th February.
