Home draw for Clarets

Since beating Bury at Gigg Lane at the start of last season’s competition it is our eighth consecutive home draw in the two major cup competitions and we have been paired with the Tykes for the first time ever in this cup.

In fact cup ties are not common place between the two clubs and the only occasion we have met in any such competition was way back in the 1910/11 season when we beat them 2-0 at home in the 2nd round of the FA Cup, with our goals coming from Jonathan Morley and Benjamin Green.

Barnsley won through to this tie courtesy of a victory at Deepdale last Tuesday night when, after drawing 1-1 after extra time in front of a crowd of 3,137, they went on to win the penalty shoot out 5-4.

With the Clarets seeded we were almost guaranteed a draw against a side from one of the two lower divisions although we could have been paired with Coventry, Luton, Sheffield Wednesday or Watford.

The game is expected to be played on Tuesday 20th September and the full draw is as follows:

Watford v Wolves

Wycombe v Aston Villa

Wigan v Bournemouth

Charlton v Hartlepool

Fulham v Lincoln

Yeovil v Millwall

Doncaster v Man City

Leicester v Blackpool

Rotherham v Leeds

Norwich v Northampton

Scunthorpe v Birmingham

Sheffield Wed v West Ham

Burnley v Barnsley

Grimsby v Tottenham

Cardiff v Macclesfield

Mansfield v Southampton

West Brom v Bradford City

Gillingham v Portsmouth
