Home again – we start with Warnock's Blades

Last updated : 29 June 2004 By Tony Scholes

Steve Cotterill - starts with a home game against Sheffield United
Sheffield United, who have made five signings this week, will be one of the favourites to be in the top group and will certainly give Steve Cotterill a tough game on his league debut as Burnley manager.

The last time we played Sheffield United in the first game of the season was at Bramall Lane 31 years ago when goals from Martin Dobson and Doug Collins gave us a 2-0 win on our return to the First Division.

Seven years earlier they had been Turf Moor visitors on the opening day when Gordon ‘Bomber’ Harris hit a hat-trick in a 4-0 win with Willie Irvine also on the scoresheet.

Boxing Day sees a repeat of last season with another visit to Crewe and this will mean playing away from home for the sixth Boxing Day in the last seven.

Many will look for the Leeds fixtures and we visit Elland Road in November whilst they are at the Turf on the first Saturday in February.

This season will end away from home and a trip to Millwall, not the fixture many would have chosen to end the season.
