Hoddle's walked out on Wolves

There was much speculation towards the end of last season that he could go, even suggestions that Wolves could make the decision, but on the Wednesday after the last league game a press conference revealed that the former England manager was staying.

They did say there would be a reduced budget following the loss of the parachute payment and there have been cut backs. But the midlands club were shocked with this afternoon's news from Hoddle.

Chief Exec Jez Moxey has agreed to hold a meeting with Hoddle on Monday but it looks certain that his mind is made up and in a statement today he said: β€œIt has been a very difficult decision but I feel that my expectations and the club's expectations have drifted too far apart in recent weeks. The decision has been made early in pre-season for the benefit of the club.”

Hoddle has sold Joleon Lescott to Everton and seen Colin Cameron move to Coventry but hasn't made any signings himself since the last transfer window in January. It will leave Wolves in a rush to find a new manager just five weeks from the start of the new league season.
