Brighton chairman Dick Knight admitted to casting his net far and wide including interviewing one of the international coaches involved in the World Cup Finals recently. In the end though he has appointed his own Director of Youth Football Martin Hinshelwood.

Hinshelwood has held the position on three previous short occasions on a caretaker basis the most recent of which was last October when he was in charge for two games following the departure of Micky Adams. This time though he has been given a two year contract with the newly promoted club.

His first competitive game in charge will of course be at the Turf on 10th August on the opening day of the Football League season. He did say to expect some new players by then and admitted that his spending budget was greater than most managers of cash strapped First Division clubs.
