Hegley at Derby

Last updated : 04 April 2009 By Tony Scholes
It was Hegley's first Burnley game and he upset the then Burnley manager for sending off both Dean West and Gareth Taylor with the club appealing both decisions, and losing both appeals.

In fairness he had a nightmare and the red card for Fred was a bit of a nonsense, he was dismissed for preventing a goalscoring opportunity when he handled a ball hammered at him in their half of the field.

We've only seen Hegley the once since, and that was back in September 2004 when we beat Crewe 3-0 on the Turf on the day when Trevor Sinclair was given the man of the match. That day he had a quiet day with no cards and it seems that's how he referees now.

I don't think I've seen him referee since but his recent record suggests he's anything but the card happy official we saw at Gillingham over six years ago. This season he's given out just 42 yellow cards and just a couple of red cards in 32 games.

Both red cards have gone to away team players whilst 16 of the yellow cards have gone to home team players and 26 to away team players.

Apart from the Colchester v Millwall game when he handed out six yellow cards he's not given out more than four in a game all season so we shouldn't expect too many at Pride Park.

He will be assisted by Simon Barrow and Simon Bennett (both Staffordshire) with fourth official duties in the hands of Alan Parker (Derbyshire).
