Haywood is man in the middle

All of these games have been at Turf Moor and his last performance was somewhat better than the first two, although his major problem, not being able to get around the pitch well enough, was still in evidence.

He is not the most mobile of referees and that must make things more difficult for him. On the plus side, neither is he the most active when it comes to getting his cards out. He joined the Football League list at the start of the 2006/07 season and in his first four seasons used his yellow card just 269 times in 128 games with just 13 red cards.

It's similar this season. He's refereed 15 games to date with 25 yellow cards and just one red card. Of those yellow cards, 10 have gone to home team players and 15 to away team players.

The red card came in his last game just three days ago when he sent off Hereford's Ryan Green for a reckless challenge just three minutes from the end. There were three yellow cards too in that game, for Temitope Obadeyi of Shrewsbury and Hereford's Kenny Lunt and Byron Webster.

Tomorrow will be his second Derby game of the season. He was in charge back in August when QPR scored two stoppage time goals to earn a point at Pride Park.

Mark Haywood is currently in 32nd place in the RATE THE REF table.

The assistant referees tomorrow are Gary Stott (Manchester) and Jason Tyas (West Yorkshire). The fourth official is Football League referee Steve Rushton (Staffordshire).
