The reason he's prepared to wait a week is to ensure that, should they reach the play-offs and the final, he'll be available for all the remaining games of the season under the terms of an emergency loan.
He's reacted to their defeat at Derby on Monday night, a result that, following our 1-0 win in Horwich just over 24 hours later, has left them three points behind us in the chase for promotion.
During the game on Monday reference was made to the fact that Derby hadn't beaten a top six side all season and QPR's only win had come against Derby. So they've beaten each other now but I was intrigued enough to take a look at the results between the top six.
If it were a league table it would show Leicester on top with 13 points with us just a point behind. Forest are then a further point behind us with 11 and Reading come fourth with 8 points. All four clubs have played six games.
QPR and Derby, however, have now both played seven. QPR have 5 points while the 3 points Derby collected on Monday are the only points they've won in top six games.
The clean sheet in our win at Bolton was out 12th this season and that equals the number in each of the last two seasons. QPR and Brighton are the only two clubs with more clean sheets; they both have 14 whilst poor Barnsley have the least with just three.
That's no surprise. Barnsley have conceded 47 league goals this season, the same as Yeovil although there are three teams who have conceded more. Bolton have seen 48 goals put past them and it's one more for Bournemouth. But nothing can compare with the 58 goals conceded by Millwall this season.
After all the games this week it is looking very tight at the top of the table, or certainly for the chasing pack behind Leicester. There are only five points between us and Forest now in fifth place.
All season we've looked at the difference between us and 7th place. That's Brighton now and the game is 13 points. I don't know whether we will win promotion but I suspect it is going to take one massive collapse of form now for us not to finish in the top six.
Charlton, Barnsley and Yeovil occupy the bottom three places while all of Bolton, Doncaster and Millwall join them in having less than a point a game.
The FA Cup hits the league programme this week with just six games scheduled for Saturday followed by another five by the end of Tuesday. Those fixtures can be found below after the results of the last week, the stats, the leading goalscorers, each club's red and yellow card count and the ten highest and lowest attendances including Yeovil's sub 4,500 attendance last night.
