Guess what - It was the Beast

It was the same top three in both the man of the match vote on the site and the message board's player ratings, and I don't think it could come as a surprise to anyone that the clear winner, and by some distance, was goalkeeper Brian Jensen.

We beat Arsenal 2-0, our young midfielder Kevin McDonald scored both goals, and yet he had to settle for second place because of the performance of the Great Dane at the other end of the pitch.

I don't care what Nicklas Bendtner was doing, and how little commitment he was putting into his shots on goal, this was top drawer goalkeeping on the night and was one of the major reasons why we are now looking forward to Spurs in the semi-finals.

Jensen polled 59.2% of the vote to win the man of the match by a massive margin, with McDonald having to settle for second place with 22.7% of the vote. Graham Alexander, inspirational again in that midfield role, came third with 7.7% of the vote.

Last season Andrew Cole recorded our highest ever rating with 9.87 out of 10 in the 4-2 win at QPR. Jensen has now beaten that by the narrowest of margins. His rating was 9.88 out of 10 and ensured he took first place.

Alexander and McDonald were the other way round with the ratings, and they scored so high they would have won on most occasions. Alexander came second with a rating of 9.47 whilst McDonald's rating was 9.43 out of 10.

Jensen, for the second round in succession, picks up the maximum six points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Season, whilst both McDonald and Alexander get three points.

That maximum haul has taken Jensen into fifth place ahead of Alexander whilst McDonald is now ninth. The table shown after recent games has not included the points awarded for the away game at Coventry. In that game both Steven Caldwell and Wade Elliott won five points and there was one each for Michael Duff and Christian Kalvenes.

Those points have now been added along with those won in the win over Arsenal, and the current table is:

39: Martin Paterson
37: Chris McCann
31: Steven Caldwell
28: Chris Eagles
26: Brian Jensen
25: Graham Alexander
23: Wade Elliott
22: Robbie Blake
16: Kevin McDonald
15: Clarke Carlisle
13: Stephen Jordan
12: Michael Duff
9: Russell Anderson
5: Christian Kalvenes
3: Joey Gudjonsson
2: Steven Thompson
