Guerrero set to leave Turf Moor

He signed just in time to join the Burnley squad on pre-season in Scotland and made a hurried substitute debut at Kilmarnock, then played at St. Johnstone before going into the Burnley squad for the opening league game at Stoke where he was introduced as a substitute.

Two days before that Stoke game, then manager Owen Coyle said at a Clarets Mad event that Guerrero would be the most fouled player in the Premier League this season. However, he was used very sparingly by Coyle and played not much more than seventy minutes league football for him.

Since Brian Laws arrived as manager he's failed to make the squad and there were suggestions in the tabloids that he might be set to leave and this has been confirmed by the club this morning.

Laws said of the situation: "Fernando came here with high expectations, but we have come to the decision that he is not going to get into our side.

"We have got a big squad here and if we are going to make these decisions let's start making them and we have to move people around. He's a player that needs to move on and see if there is anything out there that suits him better.

"He's probably a bit disappointed, as everybody is, that he has not made an impact within the football club. But we have to concentrate on those that will affect the team. We have got to give them every ounce of our coaching ability and mentality and those that are not getting in the team say it's time to move on.

"It's not a fall out, it's purely a football decision. It won't be the first and it won't be the last. We have got a big squad and that's the nature of the beast. We have to make decisions for the right reasons for the football club."

Guerrero played in both Carling Cup ties this season but made just seven substitute apperances in the Premier League, the last of which was in the home game against Fulham in December, just one of three Turf Moor appearances.
