Grezza takes last midfield place

Alexander joined the Clarets just before the summer transfer window closed two summers ago and made his debut at Colchester in the midfield role, much to the surprise of many Burnley fans who had expected him to go in at right back.

It was only a serious injury to Michael Duff that saw him move back into the back line but in 2008/09 season he was employed again much more often in the holding role in the midfield and such were his performances that he landed a number of end of season player of the year awards.

He was a close second behind McCann in the first vote but simply run away with it on the second count. He polled no less than 63.9% of another massive vote. As expected, Kevin Ball came second but his 12.2% never threatened Alexander.

Further down Eric Djemba-Djemba (5.5%) and Richard Chaplow (5.0%) occupied the next two positions.

That means we have our goalkeeper, we have our defence, and we now have our midfield. That leaves the two forward positions, and the first of those two votes is now underway and will run until the end of Thursday. As always it is on the front page and there are sixteen players to select from.
