Great Scott a new referee in the Premier League

Last updated : 28 November 2014 By Tony Scholes

Scott first became a Football League referee for the 2008/09 season with his first match an opening day League Two fixture between Barnet and Chesterfield. He was used almost exclusively during that season in Leagues One and Two but did referee one Championship game between QPR and Norwich at Loftus Road.

Even this season he's only had six Championship games out of a total of 19 games refereed but his performances have won him this promotion. In those 19 games he's handed out 55 yellow cards and just one red card, and that's a surprisingly low total for him.

He sent off Luke Murphy of Leeds in their 2-1 Capital One Cup defeat at Bradford, and of his 55 yellow cards, 20 have gone to home team players and 35 to away team players.

Our home fans haven't previously seen Scott; although he's refereed Burnley on five previous occasions they have all been away from home.

We've won two of them, drawn one and lost two and, surprisingly, haven't had any players carded in the last two. Overall his performances haven't been too bad with the exception of our win at Coventry in 2011/12 season when he had a shocker, waving his cards all over the place including a red for Coventry's Gael Bigirimana.

He did have a card free game this season, at Port Vale in August, but they are rare so I would expect some cards tomorrow, and I suspect he'll be playing it by the book with the attention on him for this first game in the Premier League.

The assistant referees are Mike Mullarkey (Devon), one of the assistants last week at Stoke, and Scott Ledger (South Yorkshire). The fourth official is Jon Moss (West Yorkshire) who refereed our game against West Brom in September.
