Gray is top man at the Valley

Andy Gray
Andy gave us an early lead, heading in Robbie Blake's cross, and with twenty minutes to go eased all our nerves when he converted the penalty to complete the scoring. It wasn't just the goals, this was an all round top performance from the striker which was singled out for praise by manager Owen Coyle.

Even so, with so many other good performers he wasn't able to run away with either the poll or the ratings. He topped the poll with 36.3% of the vote to claim all three points, but not far behind him was his fellow forward Robbie Blake who won two points in netting 31.2% of the vote.

With those two taking over two thirds of the vote there was a big drop to third place and that, along with the last point, went to central defender Clarke Carlisle who had one of his best games in a Burnley shirt and alongside David Unsworth stood firm during that period of Charlton pressure.

The player ratings drew just about the same players. Again Gray led the way claiming an average rating of 8.72 out of 10. That sort of rating would usually guarantee an easy win and three points, but as was the case at Watford in the previous game the marks were high with five players rating above eight.

Carlisle was second, and his rating was 8.67 whilst Robbie Blake and Gabor Kiraly were joint third with a rating of 8.39 and they take a point apiece.

Voting is still in progress for the Leicester game and will continue until the end of Friday.

The current Player of the Year Table reads:
