Grant set to go

Not many Football League clubs have money to spend on players although there are exceptions and news has broken tonight that Tony Grant could be set to become a Hull City player before weekend.

It does seem the most unlikely of transfers which would mean Rodders dropping two divisions to go and play for The Legend Peter Taylor but it is a fact that Hull are one of the few clubs who can afford to pay out this sort of money.

Grant has been a Claret for just over a year, signing from Manchester City in October 2001. He hit a superb spell of form during the run of wins in November and into December but has failed to maintain that during 2002.

He has though been hit with a number of injuries that have prevented him from holding down a regular place in the side and after getting back in the starting eleven at Preston he lost his place again last week as he served a one match suspension for collecting five yellow cards.

Nothing has been said by either club but sources at Turf Moor suggest the move is set to go through.

Stan has said he would be returning to the squad for the visit of Norwich, it remains to be seen whether he is in the squad or whether he is lining up for Hull City at Boothferry Park in a 3rd Division game against Boston United.

It could be that Stan is clearing space and money for an incoming player with a central defender believed close to signing.
