Grant joins Crewe

Grant himself admitted that he had what he thought was a better offer on the table but when that failed to materialise he found the Burnley offer was no longer there and that led to him training with various clubs.

Pre-season training started for Grant at Accrington before he moved on to Oldham, Derby and then Stoke in the search for a new club – he played in a pre-season friendly for Derby but manager Phil Brown thought he was too similar to the players already at the club.

Into the season and he signed a week to week deal with Bristol City but after one appearance in the Carling Cup he was released and started to train with Chester City. A few weeks ago he left them suddenly amidst rumours that he was set to return to Burnley.

In truth Grant had started training with Crewe and today he has signed for bottom of the league Crewe until the end of the season.

On signing him Dario G said, “Tony has been training with us for a few weeks now and has always been a super footballer. It is good to have players of his quality and experience. We already know that he can play at this level and that he is composed in his play and would keep the ball for us.”

Grant will be in the Crewe squad for their home game against Luton tomorrow.
