Grant is now a Claret

Lee Grant
We finally agreed a fee with Wednesday for him two days ago and, despite sudden interest from both West Brom and Bristol City, we were always favourites to get a player who Laws signed three years ago when he took him to Hillsborough from Derby County.

He's signed a three year deal with the Clarets, and that means he should be with us somewhat longer than in his previous spell at Turf Moor that lasted two months from November 2005 to January 2006 when he came in on an emergency loan.

It was very much an emergency too, going straight into the side to replace the suspended Brian Jensen for a home game against Leicester, this after Jensen's red card at Luton a week earlier.

He kept a clean sheet in what was his only Burnley appearance, in a team that lined up: Lee Grant, Michael Duff, Keith Lowe, John McGreal, Jon Harley, Wade Elliott, John Spicer, Micah Hyde, James O'Connor, Garreth O'Connor, Ade Akinbiyi.

Three seasons earlier, Grant made his Football League debut against the Clarets. He came on as a substitute for the injured Andy Oakes, himself a former Burnley goalkeeper, at Pride Park. We beat Derby 2-1 that day in what was our first win of the 2002/03 season.

Now he is a permanent signing and will challenge Brian Jensen for the keeper's jersey at Turf Moor. He becomes the fourth summer signing following the captures of Dean Marney, Chris Iwelumo and Ross Wallace.
