Grant gets Norwich job

Grant has been working as number two to Alan Pardew at West Ham since the beginning of 2004 and prior to that he had a coaching role at Bournemouth where he ended his playing career which had started in his native Scotland with Celtic.

He played over 400 games for Celtic before heading south in the summer of 1997 when then Norwich manager Mike Walker paid £200,000 for the 32 year old midfielder. Two years later his former Celtic team mate Tommy Burns took him to Reading and within a few weeks he was playing for Pardew.

His return to Norwich as manager is still subject to a compensation package being agreed but the West Ham manager has already accepted he is losing his assistant and said: “Peter has been the best assistant manager you could possibly wish for. He has been loyal, intelligent and he has a great work ethic.

“I think everyone at West Ham will join me in wishing him all the luck in the world at Norwich, we are certainly going to miss him and we send him off with our best regards and I would just like to say thank you to a gentleman and a top person.”

Grant is expected to take over on Monday but the East Anglian club have confirmed that he will be at Loftus Road tomorrow to see their game against Queens Park Rangers.

With the appointment of Tony Mowbray at West Brom earlier in the day, that only leaves Leeds looking for a new boss. Current caretaker John Carver is still in the running there although the current favourite is former player Gary McAllister.
