This time it won't be the Arsenal first team coming to Burnley, or indeed anything like it, they will send the young side that have so far demolished both Sheffield United and Wigan at the Emirates. I was privileged to have watched the Wigan win on television on Tuesday and that should be more than enough warning as to how tough this game will be.
It will be the second time we've met Arsenal in this competition; the previous occasion was in the same round back in the 1967/68 season. On that occasion we played them three times in a week. We drew the cup tie 3-3 on the Turf with goals from Andy Lochhead, Brian O'Neil and Willie Irvine and three days later a Gordon Harris goal was enough to beat them 1-0 in the league, also at home.
Arsenal, a somewhat physical side at the time had Bob McNab, Peter Story and Frank McLintock sent off in those two games, but they got the last laugh with a 2-1 win at Highbury in the following week with Irvine again scoring for the Clarets.
The game will be played on either Tuesday 2nd or Wednesday 3rd December and should it be the Tuesday it will be same date as that league game back in 1967.
The full draw is;
Stoke v Derby
Manchester United v Blackburn
Burnley v Arsenal
Watford v Tottenham
