Good Euro start for Clarets past and present

A second cap as a Claret for Stephen Ward

Ward was in the Republic of Ireland team that won 2-1 in Georgia on Sunday with two goals from Everton's Aiden MGeady to. It was the full back's 25th cap and his second in the last few days.

On the same night there was also an away win for Northern Ireland. Danny Lafferty was an unused sub but it was former Claret Kyle Lafferty who took centre stage. They trailed 1-0 in Hungary before turning things round with two late goals. Kyle had an assist on the first, scored by, and scored the winner two minutes from the end.

Chris Baird, making his first international appearance since signing for West Brom, was also in the Northern Ireland side.

Steven Fletcher made a substitute appearance for Scotland, replacing Barry Bannan, and played the ball through for Ikechi Anya who went on to equalise against Germany in Dortmund. This came after Thomas Müller had given Germany an early lead and it was Müller again who restored the German's lead four minutes after the Scotland goal to give the World champions a 2-1 win.

Former Burnley midfielder Kevin McDonald was called up for the first time by Gordon Strachan but was an unused substitute.

Last night, Gary Cahill was in the England side that beat Switzerland 2-0 in Basel, a good start with England set to play San Marino in the next game in October.
