Goals of the week come at Deepdale

Last updated : 11 November 2010 By Tony Scholes

Both of the top two grabbed late equalisers, QPR's as late as stoppage time, leaving the home sides furious at the decisions. On Tuesday, QPR were wrongly awarded a penalty that was converted by former Pompey player Tommy Smith and last night Cardiff's 77th minute equaliser from Jay Bothroyd did not cross the line.

That's how it goes at the top of the league and Preston will be bemoaning the luck that cost them the game against Barnsley, the sort of luck you get at the bottom of the league. They took an early lead before Adam Hammill scored yet another screamer of a goal for Barnsley (that's the Yorkshire outfit not us) before winning it a minute from time with the most bizarre of goals.

A goal kick taken short by Andy Lonergan to Sean St. Ledger undid them as St. Ledger's return back pass was woefully short. In stepped to take the ball round the goalkeeper and all three points for the visitors.

Lonergan was valued at £20 million by Darren Ferguson in the summer and more recently a £4 million value has been placed on St. Ledger. They reckon Wade's goal at Wembley was the £60 million goal; this one was the £24 million goal.

Preston are next to bottom now with Palace still bottom only on goal difference after their win against Watford. Hull have now joined them in the bottom three.

Hull have just been taken over this week whilst down on the south coast at Pompey it looks almost certain that Balram Chainrai is trying to sell Portsmouth. What a joke that club is.
