Glen makes the team

For some of the players in the voting poll it was always going to be a case of making up the numbers as two players went head to head for the right to play on the right hand side of the midfield.

There was Glen Little, scorer of the goal at Scunthorpe nine years ago that clinched our promotion to what is now the Championship, and there was Wade Elliott who just last month placed his name in Burnley folklore when he scored the goal at Wembley that took us to the Premier League.

For a while it looked as though it was going to be a close call but in the end it was Glen who won it ahead of Wade and by some distance. Between them they picked up almost 98% of the vote with Glen grabbing 63.4% and Wade in second place with 34.5% of the vote.

Little though was always the likely candidate for the role. He was in the Burnley side for the first five of the last ten years and certainly had some outstanding runs of form with probably the early part of the 2001/02 season the highlight with his two goal performances at Bradford and Birmingham.

He becomes the sixth player to win a place in the team as attention turns to a player on the left hand side. The choices were difficult to determine, particularly with the form Robbie Blake has shown in that position over the last season. But again the decision was to place each player in the position they played most often.

The vote for the left sided midfielder will run until the end of Monday after which the voting will start for the first of the central midfielders.
