Gigg Lane trials for two former Clarets

Andy Leeson - currently at Bury.
James Salisbury was not offered a full time contract at the end of his scholarship but the Preston born keeper has been training at Bury in the last few weeks and is hopeful of winning a deal although he hasn’t featured in any of their pre-season games.

It’s been even better though for Andrew Leeson who was released after one year as a full time professional. The 20 year-old full-back has played in both of Bury’s pre-season games to date and is hopeful of winning a deal.

He got close to a first team debut with the Clarets and at the end of last season was on the bench on three occasions although never got the call to play his first game.

He played his first game for Bury in a 4-0 win at neighbours Radcliffe Borough, coming on as a sub for the last 12 minutes but it got better when they played at Leigh RMI, he started the game and played the first 70 minutes as the Shakers won 3-0.

Bury have further games to come against KKMC and Oldham and Leeson will be hoping to play in those games and impress Andy Preece enough to win a contract.

We reported recently that Liam Eves, like Salisbury released at the end of his scholarship, was training with Huddersfield. He has featured in one pre-season game for the Terriers coming on as a sub against Wakefield & Emley.

Huddersfield though have signing up a few defenders and Liam has not been one of them. He hasn’t played in any further games which suggests he hasn’t been able to win himself a deal.
