Get your ironing boards out

George Oghani joined the Clarets from Bolton in the summer of 1987, one of a number of signings made by manager Brian Miller as he started to rebuild the club. His first season was certainly successful on the field and he scored no fewer than fourteen league goals as we ended the season considerably higher than we'd done in the previous season.

There were five other goals including three in the Sherpa Van Trophy, and his goal in the Northern Final win against Preston on the plastic pitch at Deepdale ensured he became the first ever winner of the Supporters' Club's Goal of the Season Award.

Off the field things were eventful and he had a court appearance after attempting to steal an item from a store. He paid for an ironing board and proceeded to hit the security guard with it. Any mention of George Oghani to Burnley fans and it won't be long before ironing boards come into the discussion.

His second season was nothing like as successful in front of goal, netting just eight goals in total, and it came to an abrupt end in April when he wasn't in the side at Grimsby following an incident at the Gawthorpe training ground involving goalkeeper Chris Pearce. He never played for Burnley again and left the club.

Despite his inglorious exit he remains an oft discussed former Claret, along with the ironing board, and I'm sure, as he did last time he made the draw, he will get a good reception when he steps out onto the pitch.

Oooooh George Oghani
