Get the cheque book out

All his five summer signings have arrived on free Bosman signings and that was how he intended getting his squad up to the required number. It hasn’t quite worked out, we’ve missed out on some of our targets, and has now made a plea to the board to loosen the purse strings and buy some players.

Still trying to bring players in he admitted to never having been off the phone this morning but said, “There’s only so much you can do and in my opinion we now need money to go and buy players. There isn’t any other way, the frees went ages ago. At the moment we’ve got what we’ve got, we are where we are and we won’t give up.”

The manager also appealed to everyone to keep supporting the club and to keep faith and said, “It is a good time now for the club to find out who is going to stick with you or not. Those who don’t want to stick with us, whoever they are, whether they are in the boardroom, in the dressing room or in the stands, that’s find because when the good times roll, the wagon might just be full of friends.”

There is no doubt that the squad needs to be increased in size, that was obvious before the season started and before we got any injuries. By the time the Watford game ended we had six members of our squad off the pitch injured. That leaves an impossible task given the number of players we have.

Steve has been able to increase the squad by one with the one month loan signing of Manchester City striker Karl Bermingham. He’s here for a month initially but it could be extended after that.

But we need more players and now the manager is asking the board for more money because the only way to bring them in is to buy them.
