Gerry Harrison on the move

Gerry was the Keighley & Skipton regional coach with the Community Programme at Burnley and was also the club’s Ethnic Minorities Officer but he left his post recently and is also set to move clubs in his playing career.

Last season he was playing for Leigh RMI but is just returning after a spell out through illness. He was at Bootham Crescent last Friday to watch York City’s 2-0 defeat against Doncaster and could well be set to join in with the Minstermen’s pre-season programme.

He watched his former team mates Chris Brass, Paul Crichton, Steve Davis and Craig Mawson in action and could now become another former Claret to join Brassy’s squad as they look to fight their way back into the Football League at the first attempt.

Gerry was initially a Jimmy Mullen signing for the Clarets in the summer of 1994 following promotion to the 1st Division. He played just under 150 games for us in four years before moving on just as Stan Ternent came in and signed for Sunderland.

Illness brought his league career to a complete standstill and he never played a league game for the Mackems. He had loan spells and that included two months back at Burnley at the end of our promotion season but the closest he got to playing in the first team again was when he was named as a substitute at Cardiff.

He’s been with Leigh RMI for almost three years but having left them at the end of last season and now having left his coaching role at Turf Moor he will be on the lookout for a full time playing contract.

Brassy said, “We’ll have a look at Gerry because he’s been a very good player who’s played at the highest level”.
