Gascoigne his part of the consortium, and admits to putting some of his own money into the non-league club, and this has seem him oust manager Kevin Wilson who will remain at the club as director of football, a position not often found at clubs at this level.

At the press conference, Gazza, who says he’s there for the long haul, said, “We are looking forward to taking Kettering forward. They haven’t been in the Football League for 133 years and one of our main objectives is to get them there.”

The Football League is only 117 years old and the Kettering club, once one of the top non-league clubs, have never played league football throughout their history. The former England star added, “I’ve put some of my own money into this club and I will reassure fans and players that I will not be walking away.”

Paul Davis, the former Arsenal midfielder, will join Gascoigne as head coach. The move into Kettering follows failed attempts to take over at Peterborough and Port Vale, moves that fell down because of the consortium’s insistence on Gazza becoming manager. Kettering are currently in fifth place in the league, with 19 points from 11 games.
