Gawthorpe plan moves closer

All the re-development had been put on hold but the club could now be set to make a planning application for Gawthorpe in a matter of days that would see the training ground receive a £2.5 million improvement.

It was the part of the re-development that excited me back in the summer of 2007 when the first plans were unveiled and now there is every chance it could be the first phase to get the go ahead.

Chief Executive Paul Fletcher said: "We're looking into it and we might be putting in a planning application in the next week. There would be a 60 x 49 covered indoor artificial surface and improvements to the changing rooms and car parking. It would be a £2.5m development.

"But it's the 64,000 dollar question. To spend £2.5m at this present time, the dilemma is do you put that into Gawthorpe or do you put that into the team? It's what we'll be discussing in meetings in the next few days."

A lot of work is required at the ground but the Gawthorpe re-development would be fantastic news for the club's youth set up, giving them a major step forward to getting academy status.
