Gascoigne leaves Molineux

Gazza hasn’t played any football in this country since his short spell with the Clarets and has been trying to get fit with the West Midlands club in the hope that he could once again grace the Premiership.

It does appear that he was the only one that didn’t realise that it was never going to happen, it was certainly obvious to Clarets fans some 18 months ago that his time was up. But for some reason he has touted himself around the world, including New Zealand, UAE, USA and China where he even got a couple of games.

Dave Jones said today, "Gazza has decided that he cannot cut it at Premier League level and he has gone away to think about what he wants to do. It was his decision and things remain very amicable between us.

"His decision now is whether he wants to drop down a level or whether he wants to look at other things but that is down to him.

Gazza played five reserve games for Wolves and now I really do hope that he decides to call it a day. It was fantastic seeing him in a Burnley shirt but sad to see that he was nothing like the player that had lifted us all in 1990 at the World Cup and six years later at Euro 96.

Those are the memories I want of this great player. I don’t want see him trying to get a game here, there or everywhere. I want to remember him as the greatest player in the country.
