Game number three for Jones

Last updated : 22 January 2010 By Tony Scholes
The Hull game proved to be a nightmare for him in what was his first Premier League game following balloongate at Sunderland. He'd been dropped temporarily from the top flight after the Sunderland game and again he found himself cast out after a few strange decisions went our way in that win over Hull.

He didn't referee in the Premier League again until he stepped in for Alan Wiley at the eleventh hour for our home game against Fulham in December. He had a better game that day and has since refereed another three games in the Premier League including last Sunday's clash between Aston Villa and West Ham.

He's added a red card to his collection for the season with the dismissal of Millwall's Nadjim Abdou in the recent 4-4 draw against Charlton at the Valley, and he's now taken his yellow card count for the season to 76 in 21 games. Of those 30 have gone to home team players and 46 to away team players.

Does Jones being referee have any influence on the result? This will be his 21st Burnley game and in the previous twenty only one has resulted in an away win. That was a game between Burnley and Reading when the Royals won 3-0 at the Turf during their promotion season.

He will be assisted tomorrow by Nick Kinseley (Essex) and Rob Lewis (Shropshire). Fourth official will be Paul Taylor (Hertfordshire) who just about a year ago was the referee who handed the points to Preston against us at Deepdale with two shocking penalty decisions.
