Fulham next for youths

Terry Pashley - takes his team to play at Hull this week
The lads will know that the reward for winning this game will be a home tie against Premiership club Fulham, and what a tough game that would be for us. They won 3-1 last week at Middlesbrough to get through to round four, and that was against all the odds against one of the competition’s favourites.

If we do win through to this game, it will be the second successive season we have hosted a Premiership club’s youth team, last season we were very unfortunate to go out after extra time to Norwich. The Camaries then went close against Southampton, eventual finalists in the next round.

Although it is a competition we have not made too much progress in over recent years, there have been players in three of the last four finals who have subsequently gone on to play for the Clarets.

Last season Nathan Dyer was in the Southampton side that lost to Ipswich whilst a year earlier Gary Cahill played in the Villa side beaten by Middlesbrough. In 2002, Villa were in the final again, and with Pete Whittingham in the side they murdered an Everton team that included Wayne Rooney.

Meanwhile our youth team suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, going down 3-2 to Stockport at Gawthorpe in the first game played there since early October.
