French based defender linked

That's not the case now as the Clarets squad clearly shows with the likes of Nik Michopoulos and Arthur Gnohere. In the last month we have had a Greek, a Canadian and a Ukrainian on trial whilst this weekend we were linked with a Belgian striker playing his football in Holland.

So no longer should we even be remotely surprised when a link surfaces with a player anywhere in the world and the latest, as Planet Football have reported this morning, is a young African defender playing his football in the South of France.

The player in question is Alcaly Camara of Senegal who plays his football as a central defender with French second division club Nice. Camara made his debut for Nice at the start of last season when he was only 19 and now 21 he has won a regular place in the side.

Apparently he is keen to move to England, obviously seeing the success of Arthur Gnohere at the Turf and it is said that Burnley are his favourite option.

Steve Davis is still out and although Mitchell Thomas returned with the reserves last week given his age and the length of time he has been out it could be some time before he might be fit to return. This leaves us somewhat thin on the ground with Coxy, Arthur and Gordon Armstrong and a move for a central defender would not be a big surprise.

Stan has clearly said he is building for the future and is looking at signings to take our club forward for the next three to four years. This has shown with recent developments such as the new long term contract for Arthur and the offer to Robbie Blake being for another four seasons after this. However just now I would have thought any new signing in the defence would be a more experienced player, ready to come straight into the side.

Should Camara be a player that Stan expects to have a great future and we get the chance to sign him then I am sure we will do just that.
